In my opinion I think that today no one lives like this because we are talking bout life 70 years ago where people thought differently of others that where colored. Though some people are still into racism and don’t want people that are colored to live in the same country as them which is very discriminating. Crooks lives in a room all to himself with no one to talk to because the other men don’t like talking to him because he is colored, even though he has a nice room and books and a bed he doesn’t get much people into his room except maybe Lennie now. I know that some people live by themselves feeling isolated but not like back then people now talk to people that feel as though they were isolated more often. In the novel Curley’s wife does go into Crooks room now and says because Crooks wants her out that “Shut up ya’ know what I can do to you I’ll put you on one of the trees”. That makes him feel very alienated and scared of the people that enter his room because they are white. Maybe that is why Crooks doesn’t like people in his room because he might be scared of people that don’t have the same colored skin that he does. Back then white people had more power during the 1900s including the 1930s so maybe that is why Crooks is so isolated because he makes it seem that way.
