At first when I was reading the section when Lennie was talking to the puppy I thought that he hurt the puppy. But then after I finished reading the section I noticed that he killed the puppy. Once I noticed that I know it was all over for Lennie I thought that slim was going to notice and get angry with him and band him from the barn. I expected the worse because Slims word is law in the farm. Then I thought George was going to flip out on him and leave Lennie on his own and go on without him because if Slim got mad then that would cause a huge problem to him and Lennie in the barn. But the whole time the dog was introduced in the book I had a feeling that Lennie was going to kill the puppy. Because like Mr. Lourenco said the author would not tell us that Lennie kills every animal he plays with. That Is why I also thought that if they do get rabbits that Lennie would end up killing them all. I wasn’t surprised at all that Lennie killed the puppy at all I was expecting him to get in big trouble. Lennie went over board and got a even bigger punishment.

At this point of the story, i have most sympathy for George. I have more sympathy for George because he has had alot of issues on his shoulder. The issues that he has had can date back to when him a lennie were kicked out of weed, until they arrived to the ranch. George has always had a responsibilty, he has had a responsibilty to take care of his freind, who is not mentally stable. He gave this promise to his aunt clara, and he couldent disapoint, or break this promise. Lennie has gotten George into many issues, and george is the person that has to learn to deal, and get out of those issues. Im sure that if you constantly have to take care of someone, to the point that its not even about you anymore, you would get upset.
I also think that George has many internal conflicts. In the story, like george, many of the characters had internal conflicts. George always talked about how he could have been, if he wasnt a "ranch hand". George always had a vision of the dream ranch, that kept lennie and georges hopes high, but they never got to fulfill the dream. At the end of the chapter, lennie makes another mistake that can ruin his life. I think that at that point george couldent do it anymore, and he had to make a rough choice, which was to kill his partner. Even though lennie had some obviouse issues, i dont think lennie saw them as issues, but george did, and on top of lennies issues. George had to deal with his own, which is alot of baggage on his hands.

One of the characters in Of Mice and Men that i have more sympathy for is George. I feel more sympathy for George because he has so much responsibility. For example, he has to take care of Lennie all the time because Lennie can't take care of himself. So George has to take care of him to make sure he doesn't get into any trouble. Like when they have to find a job, and every time they have to leave because George gets himself into trouble. He killed or has destroy something and then there are the consequences. George and Lennie have to leave town or even wore, Lennie's consequences become even bigger and George also had to deal with that. He had to kill Lennie because Lennie had killed someone else. I think George has gone through so much for and with Lennie.

At this point in the story i have the most sympathy for George. He had to shoot his best friend. I dont think i could do that if it was an option. I have a lot of sympathy for George because he had to deal with Lennie and all of the problems Lennie causes him all the time. Every time George and Lennie get close to achieveing their dream of owing a house with lots of plants and rabbits that Lennie would tend, Lennie does something to get them introuble with someone or the law and eventually have to run away because of that. If i was George i couldnt put myslef to shoot Lennie because then i have to live with that on your shoulders of killing someone.

Dear Stacy,
I’ve missed you. I wish I was writing to tell you that I love my new home and that my husband is the sweetest thing in the world, but I’m afraid that’s not the case. I know that I’ve only been married for a few weeks and that it might get better, but I don’t think that’s going to happen. All I do here is stay home all day listening to my records. I can’t even do that anymore because curly broke them all. As I said before he’s not the nicest person anymore.
There’s not one woman around here that I can visit or talk to. All the people here are men. I get lonely and I need someone to talk to. I can’t talk to the men here because Curly gets jealous and accuses me of cheating. But who does he expect me to do. He doesn’t take me any were he just goes out.
All the Men here think I’m giving them the eye, but their confused they don’t know anything. Some times I wish I would have stayed with my mother. Even if she did steal my letters. Anything would have been better than this loneliness.

As Me and my friend sat in the bunk house she talked about how Curly’s wife was no good and she deserved what had happened to her. But what she didn’t know was that I had been there the whole time, east dropping on their conversation. I interrupted her and told her she doesn’t even know the half of it. “Why, what really happened?” she asked. I started,”well I was just passing by the barn when I see Lennie in there talking to himself. So I hide behind a stall and tried to hear what he was babbling about. Not even five minutes later Curly’s wife comes in. I thought about popping out and telling Lennie to come with me, you know before he got into any trouble”. I paused for a second I thought how that would have been the right thing to do.
“Yea, go on” she said
“Lennie started to protest about how George had said not to talk to her but; she said she wasn’t doing any harm. That she just wanted someone to talk to cause she didn’t like curly and he was always talking about jabbing guys. I don’t blame her, I would get annoyed too.”
“Wait I don’t get it, why did she marry him in the first place?” she asked
“Hold on I’m getting to that part! She said that her mother was hiding the letters a big Hollywood director was suppose to send her and Lennie just keeps talking about soft things. I swear he didn’t have enough common sense to just walk away from this girl. Curly’s wife tells him that her hair is real soft. Next thing you know sheds screaming for him to let her go .Poor girl didn’t know that Lennie was so strong and that he didn’t realize how strong he was. At that moment I went out of the barn to get the guys but I didn’t because they would say ‘why didn’t you stop him’. The truth is I probably would have died too. So I just went back to the bunkhouse. Then the guys come in & tell me she’s dead.” My friend looked at me as if everything was much clearer now.
‘Wow, I dint know she felt that way. Maybe she really was looking for someone to talk to and not just giving the guys the eye like they all thought.”
“Yea, maybe. But you can’t tell anyone or who know what will happen to me” I said
“Don’t worry” she said in reply.

It would have been that George killed Lennie. It would have been like what happened to Candy and his dog. It was better that George killed Lennie instead of someone else. Lennie should have taken George's advise and stay away from curlet's wife.

I feel more/most sympathy for both George and Lennie for many reasons. One reason is Georgie always has to take care of Lennie and Lennie doesn't always understand what's going on. Reason two George either has to run or has to clean up the mess and Lennie ruins or messes things up without him (at times) knowing what he does himself.
Reason one why i feel most sympathy for both George AND Lennie is because George always has to take care of Lennie and Lennie doesn't always understand what going on in other words, Lennie is slow when it comes to complicated things. And George is always taking care of Lennie and watching over him, making sure he doesn't get into any trouble and i give him much sympathy because he's basically working 24 hours straight. Probably to him it might of meant forever and he probably even deserves pity even if he doesn't want it. I feel sympathy for Lennie because he doesn't always comprehend what's going on around him and it might even confuse him and nobody really wants to be confused when they're around people and that probably get annoying and i feel bad for him and his slowness of mentality ( I guess you could say or even call it).

When Lennie was touching her hair she tried to get Lennie to stop but he didnt want to she he got scared and Curleys wife started to scream. It ended up that Lennie killed Curleys wife. When i read this all i thought was about the incident that happened in Weed with the girl and the dress. I also thought about the consequence. If they would have to leave the ranch like what happened in Weed. It ended up being that George kills Lennie.

I wasn't suprised at Curley Wife's death caused by Lennie. I wasn't suprised because you had to think about the beging of the story and Lennie's past with "soft things." The mice/ all he did was pet them ever so gently he thought and they died. Another clue was the girl from where they had come from, the reason why they were in this whole big mess. All he needs to do is touch something and he falls in love with it and he doesn't want to let it go. That was the problem with the girl, all he wanted to do wa sfeel her dress, but once she tryed to fight him off it upseted him and made him panic. When I was readign the scene between Curley's wife and Lennie, once she let him touch her hair and he didnt want to let go. I remembered and it created a pattern. Especially that she tried to fight him off and started screaming, it created more panic and Lennie lost the little self control he had. I deffenitly saw Curley Wife's death coming.

The type of "lesson" I would give to a teenage girl is, "Boys & Money aren't Everything", I would tell her that if you truly want to reach your goals, you don't need a man to get you there. Women are strong, independent people and they can accomplish MANY things without the help of men. I would also tell her that she shouldn't put her name out there in a bad situation, as in don't be the center of attention when the spotlight is pointing at something very negative. I would advise her to stay away from the "wrong crew", the type of people that would want to use her, change her, and make her life a living hell.
This type of "lesson" is very important in a female's life, and its best that they know at a young age so that when they get older they don't end up at all like Curley's wife. Curley's wife isn't the best role model, but reading about what she felt can be understood. That's why teenage girls need to the know what's Real and what isn't.

I would advise her to stay away from the "wrong crew", the type of people that would want to use her, change her, and make her life a living hell.
This type of "lesson" is very important in a female's life, and its best that they know at a young age so that when they get older they don't end up at all like Curley's wife. Curley's wife isn't the best role model, but reading about what she felt can be understood. That's why teenage girls need to the know what's Real and what isn't.

At this point in the story I feel more sympathy for George beacase of all the things he has gone through with Lennie. All George wanted was to get his little place for him and Leannie. I married this guy named Curley to get out the house and now I hate it and wish I never did that. I am living in a barn with a bunch of guys. Yes, I think that it is possible for anyone to feel as isolated as Crooks because many teens around the world are being bullied, have no family, and no friends. Also discrimination. I think that people are isolated because most of today's teens are being called nasty names like "geek" or "nerd" and the stuff like that is what gets them to feel so lonely. I also think that people whos' families don't support them or that just don't have a family who is there for them are the ones who are more isolated because every child or adult needs their family or friends to support them. With out having someone to talk to and be comfortable and trustworthy of them its like not having a life it is the same as not having freedom. I think I myself would feel empty,I would probably cry and I would definetly want my family to be there for me or at least a close friend or just someone to talk to.

Yes, i do think today people still feel isolated and alienated like Crooks does. Even if you haven't noticed people are still racist. Just because people are a certain color doesn't mean you have to exclude them from things. People sometimes make "jokes" that are offensive. To them it may not be offensive but to other people it can be. It may seem like it doesn't hurt them but deep down it really does. They also use words that are really offensive to people. People who are victims of racism feel lonely. They have no friends, they dont talk to nobody just like Crooks from the book. They are basically in their own little world. The thing is that its not only racism its a bunch of things going on. For example sexism, in some jobs they might pay a men more money then a women. If you look at it it is nice being different because thats what makes us who we are and unique in ways.

He is short,muscular,coarse hair and a boxer. To tell you the truth i really dont like Curley at all. He never buys me things or takes me places. We live on his father's ranch a couple miles south of Solidad. I get real lonley so i go around and talk to the other guys like Slim,Carlson,Crooks,George,Lennie or Candy. Most of them dont like talking to me because then Curley will think something is going on. Yesterday the boys left out to town and i was stuck with Candy,Lennie and Crooks. I actually thought to my self and figured out that us four were the weakest people on the ranch.

I do think it is possible today (2009) for anyone to feel as alienated or even isolated as Crooks is by there race (color), how they talk, or even what they do. People isolate themselves because of their race or color because they get taunted by other people or just racist people and then the victim gets ashamed or even depressed and then they isolate them selves from the world or even their family members.

Honestly, even though the rights for Black people have changed since 1939, someone of a Black race can still feel isolated in my opinion. Though, racism these days is rarely an issue, it still is an issue and is still happening around the world. Not everyone accepts black people, simply just because of their color. For example, lets say a league is having tryouts for baseball, and its down to two kids, a black boy and a white boy. Now no one else on the team likes the black boy, except one of them who is white and is friends with him. The black boy is one of the best baseball players in the county, but because no one likes him they choose the white boy that was left and the black boy's white friend won't stand up for him because he doesn't want to get kick off the team.

if i had been in the bunkhouse when candy was pressured to let carlson kill his dog , i would have refused. i would try to convince slim & carlson that the dog is on earth for a reason. the dog is candy's companion. i know how i would feel if my dog needed to be killed. so i know what candy feels like and how he would if he was gone. i know that its slims choice so i would try to make him change his mind. i would ask slim how it would feel if he lost someone that he really loved. i would soften slim up, and make him feel like oh jeez what am i doing. i think now that they have killed the dog that carlson should be punished. candy is now devistated, he lost someone , well his only someone. i think candy should do the same to carlson. he should hurt someone to get even with carlson, someone carlson really loves or something. thats what i would have done if i was in the bunkhouse when candy was pressured to let carlson kill his dog.

if i had been in the bunkhouse when candy was pressured to let carlson kill his dog , i would have refused. i would try to convince slim & carlson that the dog is on earth for a reason. the dog is candy's companion. i know how i would feel if my dog needed to be killed. so i know what candy feels like and how he would if he was gone. i know that its slims choice so i would try to make him change his mind. i would ask slim how it would feel if he lost someone that he really loved. i would soften slim up, and make him feel like oh jeez what am i doing. i think now that they have killed the dog that carlson should be punished. candy is now devistated, he lost someone , well his only someone. i think candy should do the same to carlson. he should hurt someone to get even with carlson, someone carlson really loves or something. thats what i would have done if i was in the bunkhouse when candy was pressured to let carlson kill his dog.

My oppinion of George's decision to let Lennie fight, I think was wrong. When Curley decided to get in Lennies face, and try to fight with him, thats when george should have stepped in. If I was in the bunkhouse when they were trying to convince candy to kill his dog I would of told him not to do it. That dong was all that candy had and they killed it. Now Candy has no one just like all the other guys in the bunk house. That dog was like the only thing he can call a family and who knows how long he has had that dog before. For all we know he could have had that dog when it was just a pup. I would of backed up candy and told them all that candy shouldn’t have to see his dog being killed and no one should have the right to kill his dog. And it don’t matter if they gave him a new dog it won’t be the same as his old dog and I don’t think he will feel right if he had to replace his dog for some random ne pup. But I know I would of done everything I could to avoid killing the only family I have!

My opinion on George's decision to hold Slim back from helping Lennie is he made the right choice. I agree with George's decision becuase he warned Curley and the others on how strong Lennie was and im guessing Curley didn't remember. When Curley is "slugging" Lennie in the face and Lennie grabs his hand and makes mich meat out of it everyone is in awe. I think that George made this decision so from that point on no one would mess with Lennie ever again and let him be. Now Curley or anyelse knows not to make Lennie mad or get into a fight with him.

When Candy offered to put his saving toward the farm it makes the dream more possible because they have more income coming in to them if Candy gives them the money toward the ranch. It also makes it more possible because they don't have to wait to long to get the ranch. That makes the dream more possible because if it took a long time to get the amount needed then they would say " Oh it's to long away. Let's just spend the money." But if it took a short time then they would say that it is close and they could wait that long. I haven't experienced or observed a situation in which people group money together so i will make one up. An example of people grouping up money together is if a family is saving money to buy a boat. Each person will save 20 dollars each week to buy the boat. That could be an example of people grouping up money to accomplish a goal.

I would feel awkward to live in a bunkhouse with so many men, and working on the ranch would be something new I would have to learn to deal with. I think it would be awkward to live in a bunkhouse because I'm use to my own room, my own bed, heat, electricity, and my own plate of food. I have shared a room with my brothers, but sharing a whole house with people you don't know and are just meeting for the first time can be something hard to get accustomed with. So about the whole sleeping in a bunkhouse, I would definately have a problem with it.
Working with the guys on the ranch would have its good and bad sides. The good sides is that I would be meeting new people and having fun working with the people I met. It seems that these guys are fun to hangout with, so on that point it would be a good thing. But on the bad side, these men have many problems, for example Candy having to deal with the death of his dog. That would be a situation on the farm that would make the rest of the workers feel wierd around Candy.
As you can see, living in the bunkhouse and working with these men have many different sides to them. But I guess one would just have to get used to the lifestyle and people they live with.

Also they have a card table that u can play cards the place is pretty beat up and bad but it can be worst they can have nothing at all and have no beds and just sleep on the floor but they have some benefits to living there, very few but there are some.

If i had to live in the bunkhouse and work on the ranch with candy, Carlson, Curley and the rest of the characters Of Mice and Men it would feel very different than from living at a actual home. I wouldn't like it actually because it is way to uncomfortable and it wouldn't feel right. The idea of actually not being home isn't what i would have in mind. The characters in the story and i woudn't be such great friends because of the way they act isn't what i had in mind. if i had to be in the ranch with curley i would be laughing everytime i saw him because of his size and how he acts. someone i would be good friends with is Slim. He would be the type of person i would talk to. Candy would also be a freind of mine because he is old and he is lonly and i would like to make him happy. He would be like if he was my grandfather. George and Lennie would be other people that i would be friends with. They are kind and Lennie would be a great friend and he would make me laugh. George can be trust worthy.
Something good about working in the ranch would be that the people that i work with would be great people and i wouldn't be alone. i would have someone to talk to. Some bad points about working at the ranch is that i would feel very weird working with a bunch of people i wouldn't know. I know we would become friends maybe, but there such weird people. i would actually be freaked out by all there people talking about shooting anything. The ranch is not for me.
