Assignment: The Relationship Of George And Lennie
I did section number 9 about George being harsh and other stuff. People say that the reaction or treatment of Lennie by George is too harsh, protective, and also people might feel that might feel George is also to unrealistic. Well I agree with all three of them because at time George is over protective, harsh, and at times realistic.
George is harsh at Lennie at times by him always screaming at him
calling him dumb and saying nasty stuff about him. For example in the story he's always calling him a bastard, calling bad names like son-of-a-b1***, and also at times I think George criticizes Lennie as well as others do to Lennie.
George is also protective of Lennie when he wants to be and when he can be. George can be very kind to Lennie. For example when Curley came and started looking for his wife and found Lennie and he wanted a fight with Lennie because he was big/tall. Lennie didn't want any trouble, but George being the caretaker and best friend ( even though he won't admit out aloud) he went and defended/ protected Lennie from Curley's Napoleon Complex attitude.
George came be realistic especially when he and Lennie talk about there American Dream and how there futures are going to end up great. With them owning farm land, animals (bunnies), 'living on the fat of the land' as they said. They live at the time of the Depression and they are dreaming big and hard. George yes can be unrealistic but still is keeping hope alive for Lennie and I bet that is what is giving Lennie and George their strength to keep on working. But at the same time George can be realistic as well.
My advice to George is be kinder to Lennie, he may not be smart but he still has a heart. For Lennie i have no advice because he is fine the way he already is. All in all, that's why I agree about George treating Lennie with harshness, over protectiveness, and also he can be unrealistic.
